Latest Updates from Our Project:

One Year Anniversary since the initial Kickstarter Funded, rulebook Sneak Peeks and What's next?
over 3 years ago – Thu, Oct 01, 2020 at 01:22:20 AM

Hello everyone, yesterday was the one year anniversary of our initial Barons' War Kickstarter successfully funding, an anniversary which has taken both Paul and me by surprise, we just can't believe it has been a year already!

The Barons' War Rulebook Layout

To celebrate this milestone we'd like to share a selection of images that we have only just received showing the contents of the upcoming rulebook being laid out. The result of seeing these today has us very excited indeed about the finished product and we hope they have the same effect on you.  As always during these creative stages what we are sharing today is subject to change.

We believe these pages demonstrate that a lot is going into making this book the best it can be which is a very different approach from our original idea for the rules to be only an alpha.  Contributions from the wonderful Peter Dennis, Steve Beckett, Dom Sore and Danial Wego (HVM workbench) alongside beautifully painted miniatures by HVM workbench, Darren Linington and Ben MacIntyre of Brush Demon makes this project an absolute pleasure to work on. This new core rulebook has only been made possible by the generous support we received from you, the backers, which as we know resulted in the successful funding of this Barons' War 2 Kickstarter.

Something New Just Starting

Paul and I have spent a lot of time recently discussing ideas for what we would like to do next culminating in us starting a new project.  The plan is to share more information about it very soon, however, our focus is still very much on the fulfilment of the Barons’ War 2 Kickstarter which has to take priority.

Seeing as we have mentioned a new project it would be very wrong not to share something with you so here is our first 'hovel' situated in a largish village outside of the city of (S)Nottingham.

BW2 Update: Manufacturing & Fulfillment

Footsore Miniatures & Games continue to produce all the castings needed to fulfil the Kickstarter, below is just a small sample of those waiting to be packed.  With completed pledges still on course to be sent before the end of 2020, I'm very happy to report everything is as it should be. I will report back as these pledges start to be packed up ready to be sent on their way.

Fresh castings ready to be packed

So that's it for another (unscheduled) update, thank you once again for all your support and encouragement for The Barons' War project it means the world to us.  Make sure you stay safe!

September is here what have we been up to?
over 3 years ago – Fri, Sep 18, 2020 at 04:11:06 PM

Hello, I thought it was about time for another update to let you know what has been happening behind the scenes.

The English led by King John clashes with the Irish over taxes

The Barons' War Rules

The very first draft of the rules with the type added

I have a confession to make.  The idea for this Kickstarter was to provide an A5 set of free Alpha rules which could be used to field the models from both of the Barons' War Kickstarters. A book consisting roughly of 76 pages at the most, a book best described as a set of basic core rules that would be enough to get us started.

Yes, page number 115 is correct, we might have gone over our page count a bit!

Unfortunately, due to being left unsupervised what has happened is I (Andy) have ended up writing a 120-page full-colour rulebook which I am very pleased to say includes artwork by Peter Dennis alongside illustrations and diagrams by Steve Beckett as well as miniature photography of the Barons' War range. Currently, aided (and abetted) by the talented Mr Beckett we are going through the very first draft editing, commenting and deciding on the finished layout, what I like to call 'the what goes where bit'. It is looking like we are still on schedule to have everything finished next month and off to the printers in plenty of time.

So if you have backed the Kickstarter and qualify for a printed version you will now be receiving a free copy of 'The Barons' War' core rulebook, which is not an Alpha, and given its quality, is looking like it will have an RRP of at least £15.

Production and Packing

The finished product is collated in preparation for packing pledges

Footsore Miniatures and Games have been cracking on with the production of the miniatures for the pledges.  So far all of the resin miniatures have been cast for The Rebel Pledges and have been carefully stored ready to be collated and packed. The white metal miniatures are being cast out of the one-tonne metal mountain which arrived on site last month and is being used up at a fast rate of knots!

Everything is looking to be on schedule for pledges leaving Footsore before the end of 2020 if this changes for any reason you will be the first to know.

That's all for now, but as always if you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Stay safe!

over 3 years ago – Mon, Aug 31, 2020 at 07:43:21 PM

Locking Pledges at Midnight Tonight

We wanted to send you are a final friendly reminder that ALL completed pledges will be locked at the end of today, 31 August 2020. The good news is we only have 40 pledges still outstanding which is pretty awesome indeed!

If you are yet to complete your pledge or planning on sneaking in a late pledge you have until midnight tonight (GMT).  The reason for this deadline is to enable us to give Footsore Miniatures & Games the final numbers they will need to fulfil your pledges and ship before the end of 2020.

Remember if you need longer that is OK too, we are just being upfront by saying if we don't have your completed pledge in by tomorrow morning (UK time) we can not guarantee you will receive your shipment by the end of this year. You will definitely still receive your pledge but it is likely to be early 2021.

Barons' War Rules Q&A

We held a Q&A on the Barons' War alpha rules answering the initial questions so far received and more during a live stream.  If you missed it click on the image below to be taken to Andy Hobday's Facebook page to watch. The idea is to hold another live stream once the rules land with backers as we anticipate lots of questions.

If you need any help today completing pledges please let me (Andy)  know as I am around, at home doing the usual Bank Holiday DIY chores.

Friendly Reminder about Locking Pledges & Rules Q&A Live Stream this Weekend
over 3 years ago – Fri, Aug 21, 2020 at 06:45:02 AM

We wanted to send you are a friendly reminder that pledges will be locked at the end of this month, August 2020 - that's in 14 days time. With only 46 pledges still outstanding at the time of writing, we have to say a big thank you to backers for helping us by finalising your choices.

If you are yet to complete your pledge or planning on sneaking in a late pledge you have until midnight on the 31st August 2020 (GMT).  The reason for this deadline is to enable us to give Footsore Miniatures & Games the final numbers needed to fulfil your pledges so they can be shipped before the end of 2020.

If you need longer that is OK, we are just being upfront by saying if we don't have your completed pledge by 31st August 2020 we can not guarantee you will receive your shipment by the end of this year. You will definitely still receive your pledge but it is likely to be early 2021.

Now that playtesting has been completed, and the alpha rules are away being edited, we have arranged a live stream to answer questions about the rules as requested by lots of backers. Yep, we know copies of the rules have not been received yet*, however, the idea is to answer those initial burning questions that we keep being asked as well as hopefully engage you on the gameplay and start you thinking about the types of retinues you may want to build.

Join us Saturday 22nd August 2020 at 8:30 pm (GMT) to ask questions while we are live. If you can't make it please post any questions you have below and we'll do our best to answer them all during the stream.

*To be clear the rulebook not been sent out to anyone yet, the plan is for a digital copy to be sent to every backer as soon as we have it and before it goes to the printers.

Stay Safe!

Getting Ready to Lock Pledges and Charge Cards
over 3 years ago – Wed, Aug 05, 2020 at 03:40:33 PM

Time to start locking orders in the pledge manager, BackerKit

Good Morning, everyone, I hope you are all well and had a relaxing weekend.  This is a short update just to let you know we will be locking orders, for the first time, tomorrow evening, 4th August 2020 at 21:00.  So far from the 666 backers and 24 late pledges we have 619 completed surveys with only 71 outstanding which is phenomenal, thank you, everyone, for being so prompt it really is helpful.

36 hours to go before we lock pledges

Why are we locking pledges in advance of shipment?  By locking pledges it provides Paul and me, and more importantly Footsore Miniatures & Games with the accurate production numbers needed to fulfil all of your pledges.

So with this in mind, those of you who have completed your pledges if you are planning to add anything or change your shipping address you have roughly 36 hours from now to do so.

Crossbows and Sergeants a deadly combination

If you are yet to complete your pledge or planning on sneaking in a late pledge you have until the last day of August 2020 as it's our plan, at that point, to lock all outstanding pledges as well as close access to the late pledge manager.  A note of caution if you miss the deadline by not finalising things by the end of this month we can not guarantee that you will receive your pledge this year, sorry but we have to draw a line somewhere.

Locking pledges is an exciting time for us as it marks the initiation of the process of everything being shipped out to you. As always any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch. Stay safe!
